By applying pressure and heat to the layers, the PVB is bonded to the glass, making the glass able to absorb the energy of an impact. The glass can be punctured or be broken, but it will stay intact, minimizing the risk of injury from sharp edges. The process also makes the glass able to deflect up to 95% of UV rays.
